Hi KoGaMians!
We’re bringing a new update: Game Tiers!
Game Tiers is a new system which allows saving your progress per game. This system will be the foundation of new possibilities of how we as developers can improve game progression.
Therefore, what you see in this update is far from the full version, rather, it’s the first step towards per game progression.
We see progression as one of most important things in a fun player experience. To give players an incentive to return to a game, there should be a sense of progression that can be built upon over time.
We’d appreciate feedback and bug reports from you guys. Feedback can be posted right here in this thread, and bugs should be posted here.
So, let’s get into what this update is all about.
Game Tiers
Three unlockable Game Tiers are added. Game Tiers are currently used for two things: they are unlocked for rewards, and can be added as gameobject requirements.
Game Tier Rewards
As a player, you’re now able to unlock three Game Tiers. Each Game Tier currently rewards XP to the player. You can unlock more XP the higher the Game Tier. (More Game Tier rewards are planned for later updates).
The Game Creator decides the amount of XP rewarded, but there is a minimum and maximum limit. The higher the XP reward, the more crystals are required to unlock the Game Tier.
Game Object Requirement
Also, game creators can add Game Tiers as requirements on game objects. For example, if there is a Game Tier 2 requirement on a portal, then the player would need to unlock Game Tier 2 to use the portal.
Saved Per Game
Fear not! Game Tiers are saved per game. Leaving a game and coming back another day will not reset your Game Tier nor your progression towards a new Game Tier. Game Tiers are bound to each individual game. Having unlocked Game Tier 2 in one game will not unlock it in another game.
How to unlock Game Tiers: Crystals
Game creators will be able to add sparkly, blue Crystals around the game world. These crystals are used to unlock Game Tiers. Game Tier 2 costs x amount of Crystals, and to unlock it the player would have to collect the corresponding amount of Crystals. If you want access to a Game Tier without spending any time on collecting Crystals, you can pay the creator gold for unlocking a Game Tier. The owners of the game will receive a share of the profits. Buying a Tier this way will not grant progress towards your highscore.
Crystals can be collected through certain winning conditions:
Crystals can also be gathered by picking up crystals or crystal veins at locations of the game creators’ choosing. These are reset so you can collect them again when the round ends.
Crystal Highscore
Additionally to the Game Tiers, there is a Crystal Highscore in place. In this fancy new highscore list, the total amount of Crystals picked by each individual player across play sessions is stored and tracked. Players are now able to compare their Crystal Scores with each other, and battle for the top of the list. Crystal Highscores are specific to each individual game, and is stored across sessions.
Beta Mode
When a game is published, it will enter Beta Mode. During the Beta Mode the value of Crystals is being calibrated. This is done to ensure that the time it takes to reach each Game Tier is balanced.
Therefore, the amount of Crystals added by the Game Creator does not affect the time it takes to unlock a Game Tier. If the Game Creator lets players pick up more Crystals in a shorter time, the value of each Crystal will be reduced. 1000 Crystals in one game hold the same value as 10 Crystals in another game if they take the same time to pick up.
During the Beta Mode, players won’t be able to unlock Game Tiers. You are still able to compete for the best highscore.
The duration of the Beta Mode is ten hours of total play time. Any amount of players can help make up these ten hours. This means if 2 players play your game together for five hours straight, your game will exit Beta Mode. Republishing your game will reset this timer.
Can only pick up Crystals in WebGL and on mobile
Crystals can only be picked up in WebGL (playing in your browser) in order to avoid cheaters from ruining the fun for everybody. Therefore, if you want to unlock Game Tiers and climb the highscore leaderboard, play in WebGL.
As mentioned, we appreciate feedback and bug reports!
Cheers!
