Around the start of the release of sellable avatars, there was in fact a copyright system, where a copyright symbol (©) would appear on the original creator's profile if they had their avatar equipped.
This copyright system was removed because, of course, it was useless. People still managed to copy avatars and it became a larger issue throughout KoGaMa.
Really the only credible way to find out if something in KoGaMa is original or not is to research it. It's honestly really easy to find original builds, especially if you know the community very well, as well as the building styles of others. The idea of copyright has always been widely suggested throughout KoGaMa and its community, but the way that it would work is just too complex for it to become a reality again...
