KoGaMa 2014
Happy New Year's, fellow Kogas! Hope you all had an amazing year! As 2015 comes to a close, let's look back at what's been going in KoGaMa this past year. We'll look over the good, the bad, and the Ag. This is KoGaMa 2015: Year in Review.
We start off the year with the Parkour Tournaments! Thanks to the Devs, we get in a competitive mood. There were two tournaments: Expert and Speedrun. What's that? Expert is simply a 'complete this game first' gamemode. The rules were simple: get to the end first and send screenshots to Daniel. First three winners would receive special Expert badges. Speedrun is a 'complete this as quick as you can' gamemode. The rules were also simple: get to the end as quickly as possible and screenshot your best time. Winners would receive special Speedrun badges.
I guess you can say you just had to ReachTheFlagFirst!
Not long after that, we were presented with the Bug Report Competition! Users would go out to locate and report any bugs they encountered. This was a nice way to fix bugs and reward the user, don't you think? The user with the most reports would win a rare once-in-a-lifetime badge: Best Tester 2015 badge. When's the 2016 competition?
Not long after that, yet another competition arrives. Devs really wanted to put us in a competitive move, eh? Not that I'm complaining. This competition was the KoGaMa Game Trailer competition! We got yet another video competition! This is the third one, I believe, so this was awesome. Rules were pretty simple: make a 1 - 4 minute long trailer for your game. The top three videos with the most likes by the deadline would receive special YouTube badges.
First YouTube, then the world! Perhaps even Twitch.
Update, update, update! KoGaMa got an upgrade to Photon and Unity 5! These updates would prepare for the road ahead, and it would also give us some bugs. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though! More bugs and glitches, and more opportunities to report and receive awards! Who can say no to FREE XP AND GOLD PVP PARKOUR CUBEGUN? Nevermind.
A month later, we started noticing more than just glitches in the game. Yay, site issues! Don't worry, insmo; we still love you . It wasn't your fault, and you came through and fixed it for us. #insmoBestDev
Along with a new server, we got a new update! The Devs introduced WebGL, an alternative for the Unity Web Player that Chrome was to stop supporting later in the year. WebGL was quite a disaster for some users, but it was a start. A slow start, but a start nevertheless. Seriously, though; this thing crashed our browsers and internets. Anyway, this gave us the first Major Test Session of the year. Hurray for testing!
The Devs then presented us with another alternative: the KoGaMa Standalone Client. This was it. The moment we had all wished for for years. A downloadable KoGaMa client! It worked better than WebGL, so it was awesome. This moment made us all realize. Wow, KoGaMa's growing and moving forward.
What a time to be alive! KoGaMa's Downland.
Of course, we still needed to work on WebGL, seeing as the Standalone wasn't available for OSX yet. Major Test Session 2.0! Wow, did WebGL improve. KoGaMa was expanding, getting better. The road ahead is getting nearer and nearer.
We then received the Physics Build, which completely ruined our old games. Out with the old, in with the new, I guess. This new build showed some improvements on WebGL, however, so not a total loss. Still lost hundreds upon hundreds of games, though.
You're Welcome.
Another competition appeared! This time we had the Obstacle Course Competition! Build an awesome obstacle course for others to complete. It can be whatever you desire! This brought forth a lot of awesome games, some of which I still need to beat. Awesome competition.
Probably made for new parkour games that weren't broken.
Suddenly, another Hovercraft Competition emerged! Builders! On your marks, get set, go! Wait.. a second Hovercraft Competition? I have another chance? Yes, you do! Construct an awesome race track, city, course, whatever! Create the best race you can imagine!
New PVP Game Competition! Create a battle game! You know the rules: build what you desire. Create the best arena you can make. Code the mest weapons system you can think of if you'd like! Make an awesome Player vs Player game!
This would start us with weekly competitions.
NEW GAME MODE!
Introducing 2D Mode! KoGaMa really is improving! We can now create 2D games! Unleash your creativity! Go wil- nevermind. Go wild.. with reasonable restrictions.
Of course, we need a competition! 2D Platform Game Competition! Create a parkour game, an adventure game, race game, etc! This brought us some of the best games I've seen. Not only were they new, but they were ridiculously fun.
TINCUP.
Hear ye, hear ye! Presenting ye olde Competition of Castles! Thou wouldst- ok, I'm done with that. Just build a castle, will you? Make one up or build a real one; it doesn't matter! Just let your creativity go wild!
New blueprint! Introducing the Windmill! This item will launch you in any which way you position it! Straight up, at an angle, etc! Create
It's your number one fan!
OooooOOOOOooooOOOO!
Spooky Game Competition! Halloween is approaching, so why not make a spoopy game? I don't even want to say 'Go wild' here.. Things can get pretty spooky. Jumpscares, ghosts, and spooks, oh my!
Third reused competition, eh? HALF-LIFE 3 CONFIRMED.
Boo! Halloween Avatar Costume Competition! Create an awesome costume for the Blockboy. Make it spoopy or fun! Or both. Ever seen a smiling Blockboy emote? Those things are creepy.
Blockboy knows where you live.
Did someone say 2D Mode Update? Yes, we did!
2D Mode - REVAMPED! This update brought us a brand new 2D Mode! We are now able to create 2D platform games, which are really awesome. It also broke even more games. Can't have your cake and eat it, too.
Construction competition!
2D Platform Redux Competition!
KoGaMa Optimizations #1! In preparations for Mobile, KoGaMa has received an optimization update which should increase FPS on other target builds.
Ho ho ho! Christmas Competiton!
Did.. did you just say Mobile? KoGaMa Mobile is here! One of the most anticipated features, and it's available for testing! Bugs here and there, yes, but this is awesome!
Logic Game Competition!
And now you are here. Welcome to the present.
We've had fun, hadn't we?
And now, the moment you've waited for.
