I suggest for a new badge pop-up window for profiles... I think the best way to explain it is with a picture:
This window could store quite a few badges without covering up a user's avatar. This would also allow for more badges to be added in the future, without the worry of cluttering a user's profile.
This suggestion also includes a new organization system, in which badges are divided into the following five categories:
1. Staff / Tester badges
* Badges earned for moderation, testing, and translating go here (basically any badge earned for helping the developers)
2. Competition / Spotlight badges
* Badges earned in events, spotlights, and competitions fit this category
3. Leveling badges
* Badges earned specifically by leveling up fit this category
4. Rare badges
* Any badge that doesn't fit the above categories, yet doesn't fit the category below fits this category
5. Common badges
* Any badge that can be obtained at anytime by anyone fits this category
I would also suggest making it so that users can earn more than one badge for having the Item, Avatar, or Game of the week more than once. Meaning that instead of having a "Game of the Week" badge, the user should have a "Game of the Week #5" badge, to specify what week the badge was earned on.
