Hopefully, by posting here no one else will get discouraged to share their feedback too. I'll try to use a simple format this time.
What do you like about this update? It's awesome that players now have more rewards for playing games. Surely, this will encourage players to join games more frequently and give them an incentive to stay longer. Also, free things are always cool to see!
Being able to see all the rewards you can potentially win is interesting. I think giving players more information is always a good thing so that they're happier about the decisions they make (i.e. not feeling tricked).
The spin wheel animation looks pretty smooth and it lands clearly on rewards. I suppose in a way, it builds up the anticipation for winning a reward.
The new notifications are really nice to look at. The animated background is interesting and noticeable enough to attract attention to an important event while not being completely intrusive. It's also cool to see more types of notification text events and to no longer have them linger in the chat window. Also, I like that some issues like being blown up by a hovercar were corrected. There's even some subtle humor in the notification text, which I find entertaining as well.
Friend request notifications are definitely easier to accept by pressing the 'R' key when it pops up. If only my friend's list wasn't full! Argh! Oh well, it's still nice to see that this scenario was considered and a text prompt is posted when accepting new friends ingame is impossible.
The new background animation for the winning screen is a lot more interesting than the blank background it used to be. It makes a win feel more special and that’s pretty cool.
It’s neat to now be able to see a timer for the free gold reward on new games. Although, it is a bit odd for its notification to be a KoGa emote rather than the gold icon used in the timer.
On a minor note, it's pretty cool to see the small KoGa emotes pop up here and there - whether it be in the notifications or in the coin booster. I think it connects certain parts of the game together in an appealing way.
Is there anything you dislike?I'm slightly annoyed that going to the spin wheel window takes up the whole screen. To me, it interrupts gameplay in a way that's actually kind of harsh. The player loses all information that's happening in the game, other than sound, and they are unable to react to anything immediately while spinning the wheel. I suppose I'm confused why it takes up a whole screen rather than a smaller window, like the size of the Inventory.
The number of active spins a player has, free or purchased, are not saved and therefore do not persist across multiple sessions. For free spins, this isn't that big of an issue, but if a player is spending money on a game there should be a level of redundancy involved to ensure a player keeps what they bought. It's worth noting that gamecoin booster time is saved across sessions, it stands to reason that purchased spins can be saved as well.
I suppose this is only a minor annoyance to me, but could be especially aggravating depending on luck. Anyway, it's weird to me that the spin wheel isn't continuous. After you collect a reward, the spinning wheel will reset and its marker will often be on top of a new a reward. This can become confusing, for example, if a player wins a 35 XP reward and then goes back on a screen where the indicator is on 1,000 gold. It's very easy do a double take due to a momentary lapse of forgetfulness.
It’s slightly inconvenient to have to interrupt a game in order to collect a free gold reward by clicking on it. I suppose this is somewhat related to the spin wheel taking up the full screen as well. It just seems like it’s more distracting than it needs to be, but that’s all subjective I suppose. Aside from that, it seems there is a benefit to having to manually click for a free gold reward, and that is to somewhat incentivize players to be more active in the games they play rather than join for a minute and leave. Although, I’m not sure if that was actually a significant issue.
Do you have any suggestions?More types of rewards in the spin wheel might encourage players to use it more often. A larger variety of rewards would increase the potential that a player wants something from it, therefore leading to increased usage of the feature and additional spin purchases. Some ideas that could expand the reward pool could be some kind of RNG badge, a percentage based level up (partial or complete), gamecoin booster time, and extra free spins.
I think a more appropriate icon for the free gold notification would be a pile of gold, such as what’s used in the free gold timer. Following this line of thought, more creativity could be used in other notification icons as well. Although it’s not necessary since they do appropriately reflect the notification event already.
Have you encountered any problems? Here's a list of some reported bugs:
- (Link) Pressing "continue" while still having an active spin (free or bought) will result in the spin wheel not appearing anymore for the rest of the session.
- (Link) When players leave, an "error" notification is shown, regardless if they are a befriended player or not.
- (Link) The level icon for joining players will be shown as level 1 regardless of their actual level.
- (Link) When you level up, the level icon next to the notification will appear reversed.
- (Link) After you visit the wheel spin window, the "reach new checkpoint" icon will be replaced with a "spin" icon every 4th checkpoint you encounter.
A minor issue that isn't justified as a bug report is a
wording issue that arises from purchasing spins. In the confirmation popup, the text "Purchase popups?" can be misleading since you're not actually buying popup UI (why would you want to? ._.). I love that there's a confirmation popup here, but it would be less confusing to me if it was titled something differently.
In the spin wheel screen, the rewards aren’t centered in the middle of the UI window. It’s just a matter of consistency since all other UI is generally centered.
There's an exploit that players can use to avoid the increasing timer for consecutive free spins. Players can simply restart their session and have a shorter timer again.
Overall, I think it's a fun update and hope that it will encourage more gold spending. As always, I'm sure I'm forgetting something I wanted to say, but nevertheless thanks for reading, if you did. And thank you devs for another update!
