Short: If you sub a channel without watching one of its videos, that channel will lose this sub. So to sub4sub (and sub) a channel, you have to watch one of its videos. If you don't, YouTube's back-end (server scripts, etc.) thinks something like "The subscriber just wants to increase the sub count of the target channel without even caring about its contents."
