I've got the following suggestions to make cube gun a bit more fun of a mode:
1. Faster destroying: Waiting 1.50 seconds doesn't sound like that big of a deal to destroy cubes, the problem is that when it is needed to destroy multiple cubes, it quickly gets annoying to buffer and release the click every time just for a few blocks; this problem is especially big in pvp games that feature cube guns, since the map gets quickly convoluted, and destroying cubes is easily outpaced by placing them, for that, I propose the following solutions.
1.1. Laser cooldown: Instead of holding left-click to trigger and shoot the laser, bind it to the right click, and instead of having a cookup time to shoot, make it an instantaneous shot with a cooldown for the next use, this way, ensuring it doesnt get abused and outpaces the cube generation itself.
1.2. Faster cookup time: This one should be the easiest to implement, instead of a second and a half of waittime, reduce it to something between 300 and 600ms.
1.3. Anti-cube gun: The cube gun would keep the laser and the same cookup time, and aditionally, there would be an anti-cube gun, which would shoot some kind of plasma projectile, which would not deal any damage, but would destroy the cube it hits; for balancing purposes, I would suggest this projectile to have slower speed and lower firerate.
2. Zoom: Building with cube guns gets a bit awkward from afar, so it would be nice to be able to zoom.
