I think Kogama needs a good map tournament. A prompt would be given, telling you the theme of the tournament (ex: PVP race through the Himalayas, dark ages parkour), when to have your map done, and where to submit it. Players would work on making a map to fit the theme. At the end of the given time, a group of community-elected judges would go through the submissions and rate each one. The top three would be announced, and the next prompt given.
Why should this become a thing?
Well, for a couple reasons. First of all, it would be fun. People would get to elect judges, be judges, play the maps, suggest new themes, etc. Basically I'm saying it would give the community something to get involved in. Secondly, It would give people something to create. Often the hardest part of writing an essay are the first few words. It's the same with making maps. This would lend inspiration to any struggling artist. Thirdly, and most importantly, it would start maps. Right now, a map gets played if there are people playing. It doesn't matter how good it is; if there isn't anyone playing it, there won't be anyone playing it. This would hopefully break that process by giving people an alternate route to success.
Nitty-Gritty Details:
Maps would have to be submitted on the forums, otherwise everyone and their uncle would be sending in a creation.
I don't really know what the time limit would be. My gut feeling is that a week would be good, but I don't want to be too similar to the Map of the Week thing. Any feedback you have is welcome.
Anyone who would want to be a judge would have to make clear what criteria they would use. They would probably post to this forum why they should be elected, and answer questions people have for them.
