I thought mutant was supposed to hurt. Experiment
Step one: Grab a mutant.
Step two: Touch the eyeball of an occulous while having the mutant on you now the mutant should not kill the occulous.

It's very similar to the flamethrower not hurting a fire sentry. That's just the way it is I guess.

In my opinion, mutant turns you to poison which is harmful to humans but not to machines like the oculus
